Terry Ellis' ANGRY BLACK WOMAN speaks to the time but also the mood of the moment
"Nowadays I can't believe what's going on in front of me. I don't want to watch TV and find another casualty."
With that opening Terry Ellis' ANGRY BLACK WOMAN sets the stage for what is a powerful 4 minute rebuke of a system that seems rigged against people of color---and the heartache and pain that so many feel.
There are so many beautiful layers to this song, at the core being about when someone is sick and tired of being sick and tired how they are labeled as "angry". As Ellis says "for so long we've been patient now we're done." For so long there were promises of a better time, but with little change.
How long will she remain "angry"? She gives the answer: "As long as my brothers and sisters are in trouble."
Powerful. Passionate. Purposeful. ANGRY BLACK WOMAN speaks to the time but also the mood of the moment.
